Korean Karaoke Key Transposer Guide

Semitones, octaves, gender-based vocal averages, and how TJ vs. KY machines differ — everything you need to nail your karaoke key.

1. "1 key step" = 1 semitone

Korean TJ and KY karaoke remotes both raise/lower pitch in semitone steps — a full octave is 12 presses. Our tool condenses recommendations larger than ±6 to the shorter complementary direction (e.g., +8 → -4).

2. Recommendation math

When song peak & low notes are known we prioritize the high note: cracking on the high note is the worst karaoke failure mode. When only the tonic is known we center the tonic on your voice preset median.

semitones = comfort_high - song_high   // if song_high > comfort_high
         = comfort_low - song_low     // else if song_low < comfort_low
         = 0                           // else

3. TJ vs. KY button placement

4. Comfort range presets

Based on averaged untrained Korean adult vocal ranges. Trained singers can extend up to an octave beyond these; illness or fatigue drops peak by 1–3 semitones.
